P420 plastic seperator

Hi,

I recently purchased a HP P420 raid card. It came with a piece of clear removable plastic in between the raid card and the cache module. I'm just wondering whether this should be removed before operation?

The card is running a bit hot at the moment (85 degrees celcius at idle) and I'm concerned that this might be preventing heat from dissipating properly from certain parts of the board.

This is the answer I got from "Spiceworks" forum.

"The plastic is to protect the RAM module for the cache and the controller. Two months ago I have a P420 for a Proliant ML7 go bad and it was because of high temperature but on the processor side. I replaced it and kept a spare because of it. "
