HP TippingPoint DVLabs--In a league of their own

MarthaAviles ‎04-11-2014 09:30 AM - edited ‎09-25-2015 08:24 AM

Earlier this year, an attack took place on servers for the popular online game, League of Legends. The attack, known as an “NTP reflection,” used thousands of poorly configured computers handling NTP requests to send malicious data to the game’s servers. This, in effect, paved the way for the recent surge in the number of attacks against unprotected time servers.

So how are customers protected against these attacks? HP TippingPoint DV filters 13437 and 13592, respectively, cover both the client request and the server response of the NTP reflection attacks—both of these filters were developed in January of 2014. When enabled with IPS thresh holding, these filters can effectively block denial-of-service attacks and/or information disclosure against vulnerable servers.

Each week, develops new filters to address vulnerabilities and incorporates these filters into Digital Vaccines. Learn more about HP TippingPoint and our Threat Management Center, where you can stay up-to-date with the latest security for your devices.
