It is with immense pleasure that we announce the first combined update from HP Software Security Research to support both HP WebInspect and HP Fortify solutions. The release includes new versions of the Fortify Secure Coding Rulepacks (Fortify SCA), Fortify Runtime Rulepack Kits (Fortify SecurityScope and RTA) and WebInspect SecureBase (WebInspect). Features include:

HP WebInspect SecureBase: SecureBase combines checks for thousands of vulnerabilities with policies that guide users in identifying critical security vulnerabilities in web applications under test.  Features added this quarter include:

  • Session Fixation: Identify and understand session fixation vulnerabilities in web applications.
  • HSQL/Informix SQL Injection: Extend SQL Injection support to HSQL and Informix databases.
  • HTML5 (CORS): The first in a series of related updates identifies 4 new categories of vulnerabilities in applications using Cross-Origin Resource Sharing capabilities.

Fortify Secure Coding Rulepacks: As of this release, the Fortify Secure Coding Rulepacks detect 526 unique categories of vulnerabilities across 21 programming languages and over 710,000 individual APIs. New features include:

  • Apple Objective-C:  Support targets iOS applications and covers 32 categories, including 10 unique to the platform.
  • Google Android: Enhanced support for content provider permissions, NFC API, and 7 new categories.
  • HTML5: Support adds 4 new categories and targets key features of HTML5 such as session and local storage, Web SQL database, and new HTML attributes.
  • Microsoft .NET MVC: Support extended to identify 12 relevant vulnerability categories.
  • SAP ABAP BSPs: Support includes modeling of database and other input sources, as well as 8 vulnerability categories.

Fortify Runtime Rulepack Kits: Enhancements to existing rules and monitors, detailed issue reports, enhanced accuracy, and easier configuration in the SecurityScope and RTA Runtime Rulepack Kits.

Finally, we're proud to have contributed to the widely publicized HP 2011 Top Cyber Security Risks Report, available at:
