ILO ports and the Drivers installed on the OS

Can someone explain how the ILO firmware and the HP ProLiant iLO 2 Management Controller Driver for Windows Server 2003, and HP ProLiant Integrated Lights-Out Management Interface Driver for Windows Server 2003/2008 play together.

For example, if i upgrade the ILO firmware do i need to update the ILO drivers as well...? If so, what will happen if i do not....? things like that.

Thanks,
Ryan

Re: ILO ports and the Drivers installed on the OS

As with all things it's best to keep them as up to date as possible.
There's generally not usually a requirement to keep them together.
But there is an issue with older versions of the ILO firmware with the new driver. I'd recommend updating the FW (1.77) first and then the drivers.
The FW doesn't need a reboot.

Re: ILO ports and the Drivers installed on the OS

All of our ILO2 Ports are at 1.77...some are at 1.78 (testing 1.78 to see if it fixes a problem we are having with 1.77). Here's that thread: http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1353697

My question might have been vague....what i meant to ask is...what if i dont' have any of the ILO drivers installed and only have the 1.77 Firmware installed. What functionality do i gain by having the ILO drivers installed and the ILO firmware?
