RILOE in a Proliant 8500

RILOE in a Proliant 8500

I have a proliant 8500 and im trying to install a riloe into it.

I have put the board in PCI slot 9 and connected external power to it.

When the machine boots up, the riloe doesnt come up. (the f8 prompt never appears, and I tried running the firmware update but it says it cannot communicate with the board)

Anyone have any ideas?? Ive already tried another riloe.

Re: RILOE in a Proliant 8500

Its supposed to go in slot 9, which I tried. I also tried slot 1 and 3 just for the heck of it.

Re: RILOE in a Proliant 8500

Is there an internal cable that needs to be hooked up?

I cannot find any info in the Proliant 8500 documentation on where a cable would connect to.

Re: RILOE in a Proliant 8500

Check the matrix in the pdf. Pg 2-6 (32 of 208)
Were there no cables with the RILOE card?

Re: RILOE in a Proliant 8500

It says to use the virtual power button cable, which I havent hooked up.

I dont think this would cause the card not to show up during the post. The F8 prompt never appears.

Check Pg 7-8 (142 of 208) and compare the led status on RIB.

Re: RILOE in a Proliant 8500

I got it working. I put the riloe into another server and updated the firmware.

After that, i put it back into the proliant 8500 and it worked!!

Now, my next question... where the heck does the Virtual Power Button Cable go?? I cannot find any refernece to it in the proliant 8500 documentation.

Click 192123-001(Hyperlink) and press cancel,it'll open the pdf.

Re: RILOE in a Proliant 8500

As per http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/remote-lightsout/server-slot-matrix.html
depending on the processor speed, you can use either a
P/N 195254-B21 (split 4-pin cable) available as a spare kit P/N 195724-001 OR
P/N 160011-001 (4-pin cable) ships with RILOE kit.

If you don't have a cable shipped with the RILOE kit, then its a 195724-001 part.

Order from
http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main?sel_flg=partinfo&template=main&cpric=&psrchmode=&partsrch=195724-001&submit.x=0&submit.y=0

Re: RILOE in a Proliant 8500

According to the PDF you sent me, I need the "Three-segment virtual power button calbe for the Compaq ProLiant 8500 server".

That cable didnt come with the rolie, and i cant find that specific part number.

Re: RILOE in a Proliant 8500

Anyone have any ideas on where to find that cable?

Re: RILOE in a Proliant 8500

Barry, not too sure hoe you found 192123-001 to be the right part number?
It seems to be the Pdf(which i mailed to you) document number(see attahced file).
Check the picture of the cable in the partsurfer link which i gave earlier,it seems to be the one.
