Solution
The LDAP-UX Integration product (J4269AA), consists of two main products:
1. NIS/LDAP Gateway
2. LDAP-UX Client Services
The NIS/LDAP Gateway sub-product consists of two components, the Gateway and a set of NIS/LDAP client administration tools.
- The Gateway is a Network Information Service (NIS) Server that uses an LDAP directory as its information source instead of NIS map files. The Gateway accepts NIS client requests for information, gets the information from an LDAP directory, and returns the information to the NIS clients.
It effectively replaces your NIS servers
and map files with an NIS/LDAP Gateway server and an LDAP directory. Existing NIS clients
can transparently use an LDAP directory to resolve user, group, host, and other naming information.
The LDAP-UX Client Services component is installed directly on an HP-UX Client.
All user and group name service requests are
routed through the "Name Service Switch" and then directly to the LDAP directory.
In addition, aside from name services, the LDAP-UX Client Services product also supports the PAM (Pluggable Authentication Module) architecture. The PAM_LDAP library allows
the HP-UX system to use the LDAP directory as a trusted server for authentication.
