Root from console only

My /etc/securettys file has
#
/dev/console
#

and I am still able to ssh to the box using
root. What am I doing wrong?

Re: Root from console only

Hi,

you should find the answer with

Re: Root from console only

Shannon,
Since you are using SSH, i suggest that you look into the following file

/etc/ssh/sshd_config

Make sure that PermitRootlogin is set to No in the above file, i.e "PermitRootlogin No"

Re: Root from console only

For non-ssh login services, you could also delete the /etc/securettys file. That is also a nice way to force root logins for the console only.
