Setting up Password parameters

Hi, i dont find to set in the "/etc/auth/system/default" password parameters like Minalpha (minimum alphabetic characters in passwd) and Minother o Minnumeric (minimum special or numeric characters in password).
Do you know where can i setup this parameters?.
Best Regards!.
Diego.

Re: Setting up Password parameters

Please check the Security Guide in the tru64 documentation page.

See also man prpasswd, man default.

You can set them using dxaccounts also.
Por que hacerlo dificil si es posible hacerlo facil? - Why do it the hard way, when you can do it the easy way?

Re: Setting up Password parameters

I already search in security doc´s and man page without lucky. I´m looking for a default variable set..setting this parameters by dxaccount is used for userid?.
I just only find this posibility setting the "/tcb/bin/pwpolicy".Regards!.

Re: Setting up Password parameters

The password parameters that you can set are found on the default and prpasswd man pages. There are no parameters such as you describe. You are correct that creating a /tcb/bin/pwpolicy routine is an alternative to do what you want.

Re: Setting up Password parameters

There is no option for what u asked....
there are some more options in usradd/usrmod....
but not what u asked.....
passwd_expire_time
passwd_max_length
and many more.....
I think u are influenced by HP-UX :)

Re: Setting up Password parameters

I'm working on "password parameters controll" on all unix platforms; so i need to obtain for all Unix platforms some "universal" values that:
minlen
maxage
pwdwarntime
histsize
loginretries
lifetime
minchar/maxchar
minnum/maxnum
the compossition/strenght/setting of a password.
Many Thanks and Best regards for all you people!!!.

Re: Setting up Password parameters

Hi Diego,

You might want to set your sights a little lower.

Trying to get what you want "on all unix platforms" is likely to be impossible given the number of variations of "unix".

Cheers,

Rob
