change user passwd on various hosts at once

Hi,

how can you change the password of a user that is defined on various systems automatically?
We have a user that is defined on nearly all our Tru64 systems. We would like to change it's passwd every month or so, however, for the moment this is a tideous job since we need to log-on on each server and use the 'passwd' cmd.
What I would like to setup is that from a central server, using SSH (or rsh), I remotely start a script with the new passwd as argument and that the passwd for that user is changed.

I have looked at the passwd cmd, but it seems that it does not take non-interactive input.

We mainly use Tru64 v5.x. without Enh. Sec.

Any idea's greatly appreciated.

Kd,
Some of the ways used to maintain accounts centrally employ NIS, NIS+, LDAP and so on.

Are you using any of these at your site ?

If not, have you looked at writing a simple script that would enable you to perform account maintenance on multiple hosts?

Helo Mobeen,

we are not using NIS or LDAP (for the moment).
Do you know of any non-interactive cmd's that I can use to change a passwd?

Re: change user passwd on various hosts at once

Hi

unless you use NIS/AFS, you can't change passwd on various machine at once.

you need to log on to each m/c to change passwd.

Kris,
Try the following link

http://www.stokely.com/unix.sysadm.resources/autosysmgm.backup.html

Its got lots of system mgmt tools that allow you to carry out the task. I have never tried them though.

Kris,
In the link that was provided earlier, there are many Unix sys mgmt freebies available. The following link amongst them may be of particular interest to you
