Re: how to ssh from tru64 V5.1B to linux redhat

You probably want to use ssh -v (or multiple v's) to get some more insight in what is actually failing.

You need to be aware that the public key generated on tru64 is in RFC 4716 SSH Public Key File Format. Linux usually uses the OpenSSH format: you need to convert the public key.

I don't have a redhat system, but here's what works on my Debian system.

On tru64 generate a key pair, for example with
ssh-keygen -P -t dsa
you will get the files ~/.ssh2/id_dsa_1024_a and ~/.ssh2/id_dsa_1024_a.pub

Set up the identification file
cat >~/.ssh2/identification
IdKey id_dsa_1024_a

Copy the public key to the linux box into the .ssh directory and convert it to OpenSSH format:
ssh-keygen -i -f id_dsa_1024_a.pub >tru64-host.pub

Add the key to the authorized_keys:
cat tru64-host.pub >>authorized_keys
