Re: password policy change in hp-ux 11.31
Take a look at the security man page on an hp-ux 11iv3 system, or use this link for the online man pages: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02267343/c02267343.pdf to see the available security attributes available on 11iv3 (you can also look at the /etc/default/security and /etc/security.dsc files). The /etc/default/security holds the user configurable “defaults” for these values, the /etc/security.dsc file has the system defaults for these settings. If you want to modify an attribute on a “per user” basis use the userdbset –u <user> … command.

Re: password policy change in hp-ux 11.31
In case of trusted system, all the parameters in security file doesnt work. As Doug suggested, refer the security man page in this http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02267343/c02267343.pdf to know which parameters can be used in trusted enviroment.
Security file parameters Examples :
AUTH_MAXTRIES - It does not apply to trusted system
LONG_PASSWORD - Its apply to trusted system
PASSWORD_HISTORY_DEPT - Its apply to trusted system

Re: password policy change in hp-ux 11.31
On HP-UX11.31,
start SMH-> Go to Accounts for Users and Groups (Press u )->Local Users (Press l)
Select the user you would like to edit and press "s" to get in to "Modify Security Attributes" which would allow you to set the user wise security attributes.

Re: password policy change in hp-ux 11.31
On HP-UX11.31 with Trusted System environment, use the below method to define user level security attributes.
1. Start SMH TUI and get into "Accounts for Users and Groups"
2. Select "users" and press "Enter"
3. Select the user from the list of users and go to "Actions" menu
4. From the drop down menu, choose "Modify Security Policies" option to set user level security attributes.
5. Follow the instructions to complete.
