win2k3 cluster, disk shown as empty and inaccessible
We have a two node Windows 2003 cluster, which uses EVA4100 as shared disk space. EVA has Single Disk group. there are three vdisk created for this particular host. both nodes wwn have been added into a single eva host (x 4 wwn) vdisk is present to cluster host.
the cluster was working properly. one of the three disk presents is currently showing as empty with no data residing.
under windows also cannot access this drive. and under disk management this disk is showing as free disk. tried to run chkdsk util. access denied is returned as error.
under the cluster administration also its shown as Online pending.
help in this regard is highly appreciated.
thanks Shajee

Re: win2k3 cluster, disk shown as empty and inaccessible
Hi Shajee,
With the EVA, you would have an EVA management server to manage and configure the EVA, are there any errors listed for the EVA, i,e EVA controller failure, disks listed as failed etc.
If you run CHKDSK on the SAN disk, normally they are pretty big, 500GB+, the disk check will take hours to complete.
If all is good at the EVA, does the cluster that has the pending disk ever hosted the drive?
Do you use it for clustered print spooling, if so, you might have a printer that has printouts pending, try restarting the spooler service.
Are there any errors listed in the system and application event logs on the cluster nodes?
hope this gives you some ideas to try.
Regards
Malcolm.

Re: win2k3 cluster, disk shown as empty and inaccessible
Thankx Malcom,
wierdly enough left the server up overnight and went to rest. when i got back the next morning. the server was up and running. all we did the night before was under the command view eva just rediscover the san (im positive this has nothing to do with the outcome).
Now the users arent letting anyone to go debug. will collect the logs on coming weekend and study them.
thanks for your help.
regards, Shajee
