Can't connect to ILO

I have patched my ILO in (on a DL320 G4), it has picked up an IP address, I can see it in HP Systems Management but I cannot connect to it by host name or IP address.

Any ideas?

Can you ping the IP address?
Any proxies interfering?
Try browsing to ip:443 (port 443 is https:)
or try to SSH to it (port 23)

You might want to disconnect it and verify that there is not another device squatting on the same IP Address.

Yes I can ping it
Internet Explorer is not configured to set proxy server
Browsing to port 443 does not work - I get page is not displayed
SSH gets connection refused

Try following:

1. Update ilo firmware.

If no success, then

On the systemboard there is a little switch with little pins, called system maintenance switch. Locate pin No 1 and move it. It is the ilo security override switch. Then Try to power on the server and check.

Is ilo visible in post? Can you try asigning a new IP address?

That sounds like the behavior when you are talking to a non-iLO Device at the same network IP address. One strategy is to un-plug the iLO network connection and see if you can still ping the address (verifying there is another device there). You can use HPONCFG on the server to retrieve the network IP address from iLO or to reset iLO to lease a new network address using DHCP.

I'm in the same boat. I just unplugged the iLO and saw that I couldn't ping the IP address so that can't be what's wrong with it. Any other ideas? I've got about 20 of them like this.

Same issue here.

More details:

I can unbox a brand-new DL360, and manually set ILO with a static IP address.

When I do this, I can ping the ILO address & view the web page.


We tried to automate the ILO configuration using the "hponcfg" tool. If I simply write the current configuration to a file, then read in that file to set it, I can still ping ILO but I can no longer view the web page.

This is the only system on the network (it's an isolated switch), so there's no address conflicts.

Manually defaulting the ILO through and manually setting the IP info again *does not* fix the problem.

It seems that once "hponcfg" sets the parameters, it doesn't work any longer.

Are you browsing to the iLO using a DNS name or by IP address?

Use an Earlier version of Internet Explorer.  I used IE8 and it worked.
