NAND Error ILO 4 Mocroserver Gen8

Hi

I have a Proliant Micrserver Gen8.

It is showing a NAND error in ILO 4.

I have tried upgrading ILO 4 to the latest version, update was sucsefull but still showed the NAND error afterwards.

Have tried formating the NAND several times using the ILO web interface and the hponcfg command.

The ILO web interface goes through the motions and reboots ILO but there is no mention of NAND format in the logs,

The hponcfg command run from terminal just sits thre and apparently does nothing. I have left it for a long time but no joy.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks Dave

Hello,

You could try the troubleshooting steps outlined in this document and see if it helps: https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=c04996097

1. Power drain the server and check the status.

Steps To Power drain the server:
i. Remove both power cables.
ii. Press and hold power button without connecting power cables.
iii. Later release power button and connect power cables and power on the server.

2. Clear NVRAM

Following are steps may be performed to clear NVRAM using the system maintenance switch on the system board:
a. Extend the server from the rack, remove the access panel, and locate the system maintenance switch (refer to item 1 in figure 1 below).
b. Move switch S6 from default 'Off' position to 'On', install the access panel and connect the power cable to the PDU and power it on.
c. When a message indicates that a maintenance switch has been turned on and the unit has been reset, power it off, remove the power cable from the PDU. Remove it from the rack, remove the access panel and reverse switch S6 to 'Off' and then power the server back again.

3. After following the below customer advisory if still issue persists, then issue with NAND chip which is embedded on System board and in this case system board replacement required.

Thanks for the reply.

For some reason your link didnt work. But no problems I had already found that advisory documnent ( c04996097).

I have follewed all the steps outlined in that document and cant get the NAND to formats and ILO still shows an error.

Thanks AmRa

I havent tried this yet. I will give it a go when I can power off the server and let you know the results.

Re: NAND Error ILO 4 Mocroserver Gen8

Hi

Had a chance to try and reset the NAND using jumper number 6 on the system maintanace switch.

I followed the steps you outlined upon turning the machine back on I got the message:

Maintance switch detected in the "On" position

Power off the server and turn the switch toi the "Off" position.

I tried this a few times with the same result.

After resetting the switch and rebooting ILO is still showing as depreciated.

Does this mean a new motherboard to fix the problem, or can I just swap out the NAND chip?

Thanks Dave

Re: NAND Error ILO 4 Mocroserver Gen8

A system reset using the maintenance switch is absolutely not related to the ILO NAND.

If formatting the NAND does not work at all, consider a new board.

Hope this helps!

Re: NAND Error ILO 4 Mocroserver Gen8

Ok thanks.

I was just following the advice given above.

Will it be a whole new board or is the chip itself replacable?

Re: NAND Error ILO 4 Mocroserver Gen8

It is a soldered chip, so you will need a new board.

Hope this helps!
