Solution
iLO2 is a different physical chip than iLO2 and takes advantage of several new technologies that let it operate at higher speed. For example, there is a 'sideband' kind of feature that the new video chips have that iLO2 uses to intercommunicate with the chip. iLO was limited to communicating over the PCI bus. Even if the chip could be plugged in to the older motherboard, you wouldn't get any of the advantages in performance. However, iLO is not plug-compatible with iLO2, so you can't change it out.
