how can a supported product depend on a DEAD and GONE java version???

as far as I know, the RILOE-II is still a supported product. For years, the highest java version that is considered "supported" is v1.4.2, which is totally, absolutely unsupported by SUN, and is a major headache to even configure on a modern windows or linux box, particularly if the OS is 64bit, because there IS NO 64bit version of Java 1.4.2.

Currently, RILOE-II users seem to have been abandoned by HP.

It seems to me it's time HP released a new firmware version supporting a reasonably modern version of Java.

RILOE-II went end-of-life several years ago. When a product goes EOL, it means that all development effort stops; there are no version updates or feature upgrades. After EOL, a product is still "supported" for a period of 5 years. By definition that means that spare parts are available and telephone support is available if you purchase it.
