Agent Features

I'm new to HP SIM and i'm trying to decide which agent is better to deploy on managed servers the WBEM or SNMP. The servers are all DL360s and DL380 G5s. The install documentation also states that SSH is required on all clients so i'm wondering if that is true.

thanks

Re: Agent Features

Read the release notes from http://www.hp.com/go/wbem and make sure all of your hardware is supported. There are also some features that the WBEM providers don't have, such as Event Notifier and Service notification, so unless you have a compelling reason to have to use the WBEM providers (such as security) then SNMP is the way to go...

Re: Agent Features

Thanks. So is SSH required for running remote tasks on a managed system?

Re: Agent Features

Yes, SSH is required for running tasks but not for basic management.

Re: Agent Features

Most of the management doesn't need SSH.

There are some tasks that rely on a trust being set up. Some deployment tasks can be done using domain credentials, again SSH is not involved.

What kind of tasks are you wanting to do?
What OSes are involved.

Re: Agent Features

The only tasks I'd likely be doing would be software and firmware updates which seem to use domain credentials. The operating systems are mainly windows 2003

Re: Agent Features

Using HPSIM you can do those providing the trusts have been set up. You'll not need SSH for that.
