Any way to set SMH data source to SNMP via script?

Hi All,
Does anyone know of a way to set the System Management Homepage data source to SNMP via script? Or is the setting held in a file somewhere that can be edited?

We have loaded HP Insight Management WBEM Providers for Windows Server 2003/2008 as part of our new automated server builds for use in the future, though we want to use SNMP currently. When HP Insight Management WBEM Providers for Windows Server 2003/2008 is loaded though it's default data source is WBEM.

Hi,

This is possible. You can change the data source to SNMP through gui itself.
There is an option for this from Smart Start 8.00.
Install the whole 8.00 PSP by selecting the wbem provider along with it.

After installing login to SMH.
There you can see a new data source field in the top right corner of your SMH homepage.
That shows which data souce is currently being used. By default it is WBEM.

For changing the Data Source
goto settings -> Select SMH Data Source.
Two radio buttons are available.
One for WBEM and one for SNMP. By default Wbem is selected.
Select snmp radio button and click on select button.
Logout and login.
Now it populates the data using snmp.
The data source field shows snmp.

Re: Any way to set SMH data source to SNMP via script?

Thanks for the GUI instructions, though i'm actually wanting a script to set the data source ... this is so i can add in to our server builds, instead of having to manually set it on every single server build we do. Or if anyone knows if there is a file where the setting is held that would help too.

For new server builds, it would be better to not load it at all, and then push out the component in the future. No, there is no way to script the change of the SMH data source.

Re: Any way to set SMH data source to SNMP via script?

We are having a problem with the SNMP on SMH in that it is not even active to allow us to select it. How can we get the SNMP option to be active in SMH?
Once it's in production it's all bugs after that.

Hi,

Install the Insight management agents and configure SNMP. This should work. This is the only reason why SNMP option is inactive.

I had the same issue for a population of 5000+ servers. And I didnt want do login to 5000+ SMH to change it. You could script to uninstall the HP Insight Mangement WBEM Providers and restart HP System Management Homepage service.
That solved my problem.

things have changed since this thread first came out David. Now you can use Replicate Agent Settings for this.

Hi Rob,
I just tried, and couldn't find that option.

I'm running SIM 5.3 SP1 with the hotfix.

Can you tell me where/how I can replicate datasource?

TIA,

I believe your source server has to be using SMH 3.0 or higher.

in Replicate Agent Setting, after you've selected your target and source servers you are given the Step 3 screen.

-expand HP Insight Management Configuration Webapp
-expand Datasource Information.
-expand Datasource Properties
-choose Webapp Value (should be 2)
