Data Collection Report and System Survey report

Hi,

I have run 2 reports on the same server which is mentioned in the subject.
Apparently, the reports on CPU information is different.
Please see below:

In data collection, i have:
Intel Xeon 2000 0, Socket 1, Core 0
Intel Xeon 2000 0, Socket 2, Core 0

In system survey, i have:
Processor Package 1 (Socket 1, Core = 2) Intel Xeon Processor @ 2.00 Ghz
Processor Package 2 (Socket 2, Core = 2) Intel Xeon Processor @ 2.00 Ghz

What does Core means??
Can someone help to explain?

Thanks and Regards.

Re: Data Collection Report and System Survey report

In the last year or so, AMD and Intel have introduced multi-core processors, that is, separate and discrete processor cores in a single package resident in a single socket. There are now both dual-core and quad-core processors available.

Hi David,

Thanks for your reply.
Btw, how do i explains this to my peers.
Does it means Core =2 means its dual processor?
But it doesn't make sense when Core =0

Thanks and Regards.

Re: Data Collection Report and System Survey report

My take is that this is a Dual Core Server with two cores.

Certainly the data collection report is less than useful in its description.
If I select all criteria in the data collection report there are two additional lines that are largely blank except for a value for processor load and the server name.

You could probably google dual core or quad core to get a better understanding of the technology.
