ESX 3.0 -- some traps not recieved

Running ESX 3.0 on DL580 G3.

If I yank a hard drive I get SNMP traps sent to SIM and the monitoring works fine.

However, If I lose a physical network interface, it will show up in the System Management Home Page but not trap is ever recieved for it.

Since I get traps for stoarge events, and all events can be seen from the SMH, I am assuming I have this set correctly and something else is amiss?

Any inisghts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello Kevin,

Traps are generated via snmpd.
If the physical network connection is lost,would it still be able to send a trap?
Perhaps i could be wrong.

Good guess, but that's not the case here.

We just added more NIC cards to the servers. At no point did we lose the service console interface (teamed).

one-by-one I disconnected the physical cables for the teamed service console and moved it to the more powerful TOE-enabled NICs I just installed.

The SMH shows the NIC status correctly, but no trap is ever sent.

That's the version we are using -- the only one which supports 3.0.

Just for fun a yanked a hard drive again, and the trap was recieved with no issue.

Yes, that's true, Kevin. We have the same problems that traps are gone (System Management Page shows the NIC is down but SIM doesn't receive it). We've tried every possible configuration - non of it worked

I talked to the team working on this and they just confirmed that it is working with the latest (version 7.80 that is released to the web today) version of agents.

Could you try the latest agents and confirm if it works? If it does not work still, could you send details?
