ESX HP Agents and HP SIM

I have 6 ESX servers (6 x BL460 in 7000 series chassis), each with v8 of the Agents for ESX v3.x installed. I can browse to the system management homepage from my HP SIM server, https://ESXserverIP:2381 no problem, and i get the full detail.

However, when i add/discover the ESX servers into HP SIM, 2 things happen:

1) HP SIM detects the IP, but provides no product info, no OS info, etc

2) The blade is also detected in the following format: M2A1_BLC03_4-FRONT
in Encl. BLC03

All 8 eight switches and both OA's are detected correctly.

I have another 8 ESX servers elsewhere, with their own SIM server, and all works fine.

The only difference is that on my non-working solution, the OA's and switches are sitting on a different network subnet to the IP's being used for discovery on the ESX servers, and the two IP ranges cannot talk to each other. However, i can't see this being an issue....?!?!

Anybody any ideas?

Re: ESX HP Agents and HP SIM

Some things you can try that comes to my mind:

first of all, make sure you have correctly configured SNMP (there is where SIM gets it's information!

Other things:

-Add tcp.in port 2301 to the firewall rules
-Do a identify systems

-Add the ESX servers via the DNS name instead of the IP.

Let us know the results..

Re: ESX HP Agents and HP SIM

Tip:
You can check with Options / 'Identify Systems' whether HPSIM detects SNMP on the ESX.

Re: ESX HP Agents and HP SIM

I've opened 2301 on the ESX firewall.

SNMP is working, as i receive test traps i send from the ESX server.

I'll try adding via the DNS name, rather than IP.

Re: ESX HP Agents and HP SIM

Adding via DNS name has not made any difference.

Re: ESX HP Agents and HP SIM

Can you post the output from 'Identify Systems' from one of the ESX servers?

Re: ESX HP Agents and HP SIM

Just noticed, i can PING from SIM server to ESX host, but not the other way. The SIM Server IP is NAT'ed, so there maybe a network/firewall change required.

Re: ESX HP Agents and HP SIM

Resolved.

I used the NAT'ed IP rather than the server IP.

Thanks all.
