HP Insight Manager notifications

Hello,

I need an advise how to setup more visible notifications in HP Insight Manager.

I would like to be absolutely sure that I will see the events for failed hardware (PSUs, HDDs) of HP ProLiant servers.

How can that be achieved?

Thank you in advance.

Re: HP Insight Manager notifications

Hi,

If your environment has SMTP setup, you can enable event forwarding to your email account for these critcal events, you can get the event based on severity. You need to use the Options--> Events -->Automatic Event handling to create new taks.

Refer the SIM user guide and page 61 http://h20628.www2.hp.com/km-ext/kmcsdirect/emr_na-c03651392-3.pdf

Re: HP Insight Manager notifications

Hello again,

I have configured an automatic notification and I have selected "Event collection: Important Events"

This should include as written in the description all events which has severity "major" or "critical".

For now we receive only notifications for unreachable hosts which is normal cause the network connection for some hosts is not very good.

The most important question is will we receive notifications when for example the PSU or HDD of some server has failed.

I couldn't find a good definition if the severities.

Re: HP Insight Manager notifications

No, I am still looking for a solution.

For the moment I am receiving only notifications for network connectivity issues.

Re: HP Insight Manager notifications

I would not use a event collection, but rather a system collection like "All Servers" and then use severity and "major" and "critical" on all events.  I can get you a screenshot.

Also if you install Insight Remote Support with HP SIM it will automatically see these "Service Events" and email you and send it to HP for case creation.

That is if you have an HP Contract.

Re: HP Insight Manager notifications

Ok, here are the steps from SIM gui

Options>Events>Automatic Event Handling>New Task

Enter your Task name in box: Critial and Major Events ..next

Select radio button "use event attributes that I will specify" ..next

Select severity is "critical" ..add

Select severity is "Major" .. next

Select radio button "use this system collection"  and select "All Servers" .. next

Select "send e-mail" and fill in details .. next

You can select a time filter by you don't have to  ..next

Review your new task, and finish.

You can test it with "send test trap" via HP SMH on windows servers.

Re: HP Insight Manager notifications

Hello Paul,

It sounds great, but will this solution provide notifications for hardware failures?

Anyway, I will try your recommendation, too.

Thank you!
