[HP SIM 7.2] Delayed events generation

Hello.

We have a problem on our HP SIM v7.2 (old v7.1).

The HP SIM generates events delayed (15min ++)

To check if there is a network problem, we have done following:

1. Sending a test trap to the hp sim; monitored using wireshark.

The trap has been sent instantly to the hp sim.

2. Sending a test email from the hp sim interface

The email has been received instantly.

So it seems that the hp sim has a delay on generating any kind of events. The problem exists since v7.2

Best Regards.

P.

Re: [HP SIM 7.2] Delayed Events/Email Notification

I think there are two natural reason for such a behavior.

1. Not enough memory see HW prerequisites in the release notes/installation Guide.

2. The event which has am automated task is not snmp trap or indication driven.
In this case you need to think about the polling interval.  Which was in the past 5 minutes.

I did not check the configuration yet for 7.2 but you never no perhaps they adapted the values for bigger environment by default.

Re: [HP SIM 7.2] Delayed Events/Email Notification

Hello.

Thanks for your answer.

1. Our HP SIM has 8GB Ram for about ~400 managed hosts.

2. I have added a screenshot, could u check it if this could be the reason for delayed event generation?

Best Regards.

Re: [HP SIM 7.2] Delayed Events/Email Notification

After some further testing.. I think this is not the solution of our problem.

I have enabled the hardware polling (5min interval).

But still the hp sim generates any kind of events in a delay, although it receives the traps instantly.

Test Trap send from SMH to the HP SIM

Arrival Time: Apr 16, 2013 10:51:39.595218000 W. Europe Daylight Time

HP SIM generates the event and notification.

Event Time Dienstag, 16.04.2013, 11:01 MESZ

Re: [HP SIM 7.2] Delayed events generation

Hi,

Thanks for sharing the details.

There was a trap burst in your enviorment, due to which there are some traps which got stuck in form of xml file in trap folder. This will be addressed. you can go ahead and delete all the files from the trap folder.

AOE should work as expected, we suspect this delay due to trap burst.

One or More servers in your enviorment are sending traps wrongly formed / incomplete. you can verify the same by snmputil.exe (by microsoft).

if it helped, award me Kudos or Points. Thanks :)

Thanks a lot.

This has solved the problem. The delay is now at 5min.

Re: [HP SIM 7.2] Delayed events generation

I get this same problem quite often. It seems that this trap folder fills up . Within a day I can have 1000 unprocessed traps. It seems to snowball. SIM seems to not be able to keep up. Is there a patch or anything that I can increase as far as resources? This server is running 4 processors and 12 gig of ram. What can be tweaked to process these traps faster?
