HP SIM 7.2 and HP SMH 7.2.1.3 problem

Hi everyone,

because of a security bulletin we're right know trying to update the HP SMH on about 1000+ systems in our company.

First I did a test on 6 systems with different Operating systems (W2k3 x86/x64, W2k8 x86/x64, W2k8 R2 and W2k12).

After the update I cannot discover anymore a single system of them! The discovery task says always

Major:    The system cannot be identified properly for HP SIM to manage;
unable to get one or more of the following: model, serial number or
unique identifier (UUID). For management processors, verify the
system is running the latest firmware. For Linux based operating
systems, you must have dmidecode installed, enable the
PermitRootLogin and PasswordAuthentication in sshd, and use root
sign-in credential. For HP-UX, verify the sign-in credential. For
Windows, check if WMIMapper is configured correctly on the CMS and
          verify the sign-in credential.

In Details I see one interesting point:

Minor:    System Management Homepage (SMH) is not installed or is not
          responding on the system(s).

Does anyone else have the combination of SIM 7.2 (with all hotfixes) and SMH 7.2.1.3 up and running?

Best regards,

Ville

Re: HP SIM 7.2 and HP SMH 7.2.1.3 problem

Take care this could be a timeout problem.

Have you tried the SMH of the managed system?

Does it show up with a frame only in the beginning and much more later  the content appears?

If this is the case check the log for the reason of the delay.

If you do it for 1000+ check the test trap functionality which is broken on most Linux OS HP-snmp-agents in the current release.

Re: HP SIM 7.2 and HP SMH 7.2.1.3 problem

Hi,

What I've already checked:

1) I can reach the SMH of a updated system from anywhere (also from HP SIM Server) by https://<hostname>:2381

2) The certificate in the SMH Trusted systems list is the right one and I've even deleted and reimported it

3) The SNMP Settings are correct (since they worked normally before the upgrade to 7.2.1.3) and I've also checked them again

4) There is no firewall between the HP SIM Server and a managed system blocking anything (also the Windows Firewall isn't blocking anything)

Best Regards,

Ville

The SMH shows up normally without timeouts...

I also checked the SMH logs, and in the error.log I found following:

(The client IP 10.224.160.136 is the SIM Server by the way)

I'm not sure yet if the time of these events are the time of the discovery I tried, but I'll check that
