HP SIM seeing IBM Desktops and Laptops ans SERVER

Hi,
our auto discovery of the infrastructure that runs once a week is set to only report on Servers, routers, switches and other networking devices.
It has recentley started to collect info from all our IBM desktops and laptops because it thinks they are servers.
Below is what it reports back on an IBM thinkcentre 9210 VQT desktop:

System Type: Server
System Subtype: x86 System
Product Model: 9210VQT
OS Name: Microsoft Windows XP Professional
OS Type: WINNT
OS Version: 5.1.2600
OS Description: Service Pack 2
Management Protocols: WBEM:1.0

In the "Manage System Types" section of HP SIM, I cannot see an identification rule for "9210vqt" so I cannot edit it to report these as Desktops.

Please help!!
Thanks Mark B

Do you really want SIM to manage your XP Desktops ? Why not just exclude the IP's of those devices ?

Re: HP SIM seeing IBM Desktops and Laptops ans SERVER

No Of course not. But the HP SIM keeps discovering them as Servers. I want to be able to get SIM to recognise that they are desktops so that I can delete them as Desktops are already excluded. If I delete them from SIM without this change, they will just get re-discovered the next time the Global Auto discovery runs. This is where I get stuck. I do not know how to modify any rule to chage this Product type from server to desktop.

Thanks

Re: HP SIM seeing IBM Desktops and Laptops ans SERVER

This other thread seems to have a similar problem with PCs.

Re: HP SIM seeing IBM Desktops and Laptops ans SERVER

Many Thanks,
This is what I have had to do.
I have read the above article and I had already fine tuned my IP Address filter to exclude DHCP. But wanted to stop this happening with PC's in the static range.

I guess I will just have to exclude on an individual basis according to IP.
Massive Thanks to those of you who replied. It seems this was a popular post.

Closed as I guess there is no way to get my end result.

Have you talked to HP directly on this HP SIM issue? If there isn't a way to do it now, at least you can ask them to enhance the product for the future.

I think all it nees is a MIB update but there is no Available MIBs for the IBM componants. I will speak to HP and IBM regarding this.
Thanks for your help Dennis
