HPSIM and LINUX hugemem

It appears there is an issue with a Linux box going into production using RHEL 4 and HP SIM. Specifically the new server is using RHEL 4 and the 2.6.9-34 hugemem kernel and the system panics when SIM is shutdown.

The system appears to fail when the Light Out Drivers and Agents (hpsim) are shutdown.

This is the only RHEL 4 system using the 2.6.9-34 hugemem kernel, and the system only fails shutting down SIM with this specific kernel. Using the regular SMP kernel or older hugemem kernels the are no issues.

Hi Mark,

Not a linuxgeek here.....

But few questions here:
What is the model and generation of the server?
What is the memory configuration on the server?

Refer this in case you have not:

Re: HPSIM and LINUX hugemem

Hi Mark,

The link posted in my last post was a wrong one. Sorry for that!!!!!!

I was actually referring to the below link for the up2date utility which will download the most recent version of the kernel-hugemem-unsupported that is available for the registered channel.

Refer this link:

Re: HPSIM and LINUX hugemem

Were you able to find a solution to this problem? I have the same problem with 2.6.9-42 hugemem kernel. The only solution I have found so far is to disable HP SIM.
