Health Status of none ProLiant devices

We monitor some none ProLiant devices, e.g. SAN Switches and Rittal CMC, with SIM 5.0 SP3.

We compiled the necessary MIBs and everthing seemed to work fine.

After some time we got TRAPs from a SAN switch that a Power supply failed. So far so good.

The Problem is that the Health Status (HS) in the device lists are still "green". We expected them to change to "yellow" or "orange".

We sniffed the network traffic of the Hardware Staus Polling and found out that SIM is always using the OID "1.3.6.1.4.1.232.11.2.10.1.0" and "1.3.6.1.4.1.232.11.2.7.1.0" to check the overall status of a device, even for the none ProLiant devices.

Any idee how to change that or why that happens?

Re: Health Status of none ProLiant devices

SIM polls the SNMP OIDs to retrieve the status from the Insight agents on a Proliant server. There are no agents for a SAN switch therefore you can not retrieve the HW status via SNMP. To monitor SAN devices you need to load the appropriate SMI-S provider and then register to receive WBEM indications from the provider.

Re: Health Status of none ProLiant devices

I don't fully agree. The SAN switches have SNMP and "Agents" implemented in there Firmware. Other Management Applications are able to check there Status with SNMP.
Additionally we got a presentation from HP that SIM can Manage all kind of device if it supports SNMP.

But by the way, did you ever successfully implement the SMI-S providers for EVA and the SAN Switches? We have a lot of Problems, HP couldn't fix right now, with that as well?
