Host Name ESX4
Hi.
I have installed HP SIM Agent (hpmgmt-8.2.5-vmware4x.tar) on ESX4. Machine Model is Proliant DL385 G2 Server. I am unable to view System Name in system and event collections panel while viewing a list of machines in System Insight Manager.

Re: Host Name ESX4
Hi
When you installed the agents, you were asked to configure snmp settings. Check your snmpd.conf file to see if rocommunity and rwcommunity are correct.
Have you checked if your server appears in the all system collection ? It may be there as an unknown device...
Usually, issues come from snmp misconfiguration, or not configured at all. It can also be a firewall issue on the esx. The installation script is asking you about it at the beginning.
Check these points.
Hope it helps

Re: Host Name ESX4
System name is typically derived from DNS. If the serial number is showing as the server name then it indicates SIM possibly discovered the device via the ILO first. Delete and rediscover using the IP Name.
If the server is not showing up at all, then you may have filters enabled and you cannot see unidentified devices. In which case snmp as mentioned above is not configured correctly. Search this forum for snmp, that question has been asked before.
