How to force SIM (6.0) to correctly detect operating systems ?

We've had this problem ever since SIM 5.3 so it's not special for SIM 6.0, but HPSIM does not always correctly detect Windows 2008 based operating system versions.

Very often Windows server 2008 R2 is detected as Windows server 2008 (x64), which makes it troublesome if you want to push specific config settings such as for example which PSP version to reference.

However not all of the Windows server 2008 R2 systems are incorrectly detected, some are correctly detected and labeled Windows server 2008 R2 in SIM, so is this a SIM problem or an agent problem or a data collection problem ? Any ideas where to start looking ?

looks like agent issue. SIM takes data thru SNMP agent , check if agent is updated and working properly.

Yes, well, there's no difference in hardware, setup and config between servers that send correct OS version and servers that doesn't, they're even installed from the same scripted image installation, so yes SNMP should be working properly.

i was just thinking that Windows rk8 r2 is new release. did you just try upgrading agent on that server to latest available version. may be older one doesnt support 2k8 r2?

just check if this os is there in support matrix of that version of PSP.

Check what protocols have been discovered, maybe on some it's grabbing the info via snmp and others via wbem
