Re: How to reistall HP Management Software DL580 g4

upload the PSP to the server you need to install the agents

run hpsum.exe from the root of the PSP folder
and do a local scan this will install all the required HP agents and drivers

as for only seeing the IP in SIM check the DNS for the server both forward and reverse lookups

Re: How to reistall HP Management Software DL580 g4

Ive tried this and it can see the server by name now - but the system type is Still "unknown" rather than it showing its a DL580 G4 Server

Any ideas on how to fix this - im guessing its a full uninstall of the HP software or particular Management agents, but im worried as I have 3 x Storage Arrays on it and array were created using the HP Raid Array controller and dont want to lose any of this data if I uninstall the HP software

Re: How to reistall HP Management Software DL580 g4

HPSIM ID's the server via SNMP.
You need a RO community name set up on the server that allows the HPSIM Server access. That will resolve the ID issue.
Also in SNMP on the server you need to set the Trap destination to point to the HPSIM Server. So when the agents detect an issue and an SNMP Trap is issued it knows where to go.
If windows there's a Trap Send option as part of the HP Management Agents GUI (via Control Panel) that should generate a Major Event if all configured ok.
Also search this forum for snmp and similar. The question has been asked before. All answers probably there already.

Re: How to reistall HP Management Software DL580 g4

SNMP is setup on the server, and points to the HP SIM.

I always use the configure agents option in HP SIM, to setup the snmp traps. and works on all my other boxes

Reinstalling the HP software I thought would fix it - but still a no go

Re: How to reistall HP Management Software DL580 g4

I can only repeat that SNMP is enough to identify a server.
Rerun the Identification task and look at what it says.
You don't need the agents for identication.

IP Address / Name is always resolved via DNS. Check both forward and reverse lookups work.

Also check that there are no firewalls etc. blocking access.

Re: How to reistall HP Management Software DL580 g4

Ok In HP SIM I can see the server Name and IP address. (Model is unknown)

If i click the server name and login into the interface It says the correct model name DL580 G4.

I deleted the server for HP SIM.
Done a rediscovery and the same thing as before

Even reconfigured the snmp agents after removing the Server from HP SIM. But I still cant get the HP SIM Server to tell me waht model it is.

Re: How to reistall HP Management Software DL580 g4

what OS is on the server?
As above, ID is via SNMP. Note also community names are case sensitive.

Re: How to reistall HP Management Software DL580 g4

Ok ive fixed it.

Remove the Server for HP SIM
Delete all SNMP settings from affected HP server

Removed HP management Agents
Removed VCA Agents

Ran HPSUM.EXE from PSP8.30
Reinstall all HP Components from the bundle
I didnt not need the reboot
Confgiure?Repair Agents to Server (used force downgrade or reintall option)

And Presto!! All recognised
