I have a DL Proliant 380 G2 server with Compaq agents installed version 5.6. I want to install the latest version of hp management agents. I have two questions.
1) Can I remove completely the installed agents from the control panel and install directly the smartstart 7.6? Does this uninstallation process makes me lose the SCSI drivers and the ethernet drivers??
2) Can I jump directly from 5.6 to 7.6 without any issues??
Please provide me a favorable solution for upgrade of the agents.

Re: Installing Agents
1_A_Yes from the control panel
1_B_No these items are independe from HP Agent.
2_YEs you can jump from 5.6 to 7.8(the new version)
You can even install it from HP SIM Menu>Deply>Deplou Driver,Firmware and Agent>.....

Solution
5.6 to 7.6 is quite a big jump.
You will want to install the entire PSP, either from CD or a downloaded version.
You don't need to remove the agents, you should just be able to install over the top.
The server will need a reboot.
You could run into issues with the NIC with such a big jump. Worst case is you need to delete and rediscover the device to continue.
Note that if you use a downloaded PSP rather than the CD, the agents can be pre-configured with various settings including the HPSIM certificate.
Also note that the authentication method changes between these versions.
