Insufficient rights to database. When installing HPSIM.

When I try to install the latest HPSIM 5.1 with SP1 on a Windows Server 2003 and a remote SQL server 2005 Standard with SP2 i get the following error message:

Insufficient rights to database.

I┬┤ve used an AD account with DBO access to the emtpy database that I┬┤ve created.

The installation log contains following info:

[Wed Oct 10 10:52:08 UTC+0200 2007]Install Shell:btnNext_onclick()
[Wed Oct 10 10:52:08 UTC+0200 2007]Install Shell:validateInstanceName(instanceName[])
[Wed Oct 10 10:52:08 UTC+0200 2007]Install Shell:saveDBType()
[Wed Oct 10 10:52:08 UTC+0200 2007]Install Shell:validDBInformation()
[Wed Oct 10 10:52:08 UTC+0200 2007]Install Shell:CheckDBServer(fnComplete[function])
[Wed Oct 10 10:52:08 UTC+0200 2007]Install Shell:IsWinXP()
[Wed Oct 10 10:52:08 UTC+0200 2007]Install Shell:isDefaultInstanceName(instName[])
[Wed Oct 10 10:52:08 UTC+0200 2007]Install Shell:CheckDBHost: cmd /c cd C:\InstallTemp & set JAVA_HOME=.\jre & set PATH=.\ & .\jre\bin\java -cp ".;.\jtds-1.0.2.jar" sql/SQLServer -h "DB01" -pn "1433" -db "HP_SIM" -u "%72%80%95%83%73%77" -dm "MIRROR" -debug
[Wed Oct 10 10:52:08 UTC+0200 2007]Install Shell:CheckDBServerComplete()

From what I┬┤ve seen this seems to be a common problem, however I haven't managed to find any solution.

Please advice.

Re: Insufficient rights to database. When installing HPSIM.

I noticed one strange thing now.. If I go with the default "master" database it works fine. However I don├В┬┤t want to use the master database for this application.

I've tried to apply all possible user rights to my "hpsim" database, but it wont work.

Hi Lalle,
As far as my knowledge, SQL Server 2005 creates some groups with OS groups when you install SQL Server 2005. Please recheck whether the install user is a member of SQL Server 2005 user groups in AD.

Thanks,
SAM

Lalle,

The SIM installer will create its own database. You must leave the default database to "master". However, the installer will not touch the master db.

I'll confirm this behavior. I did the exact same thing, precreated a db then pointed at that db. The only thing that worked was to leave it at master.
