SIM 4.2 SP1 & Rack/Enclosure duplicates not solved
We have 4 Racks (BR01/BR02 with 6 enclosures
& BR03-BR04 with 3 enclosures -BExx- all with latest firmware) and HP SIM 4.2. We directly had the rack/enclosure display 'problem'.
We applied the SP1 and deleted all entries (rack & enclosures). The entries with "EJ--"...
wen't gone but "duplicates" records re-appeared (see below).
Does anyone had similar problem ?
TIA
Michele
Fix:
------
This softpaq updates HP Systems Insight Manager 4.2 with the following
fixes:
- Fixed problems with HP BladeSystem blade/enclosure/rack associations.
In some cases extra racks were appearing based on the correct
rack name but with portions of the serial number appended (for example,
"ENCL--EA-JK-LJ--".) Most of the enclosures and blades would be associated
with the improperly named rack. There was also the potential to have
racks named "unknown". Note that after this patch, any unknown or incorrect
enclosures and racks can be deleted.

Re: SIM 4.2 SP1 & Rack/Enclosure duplicates not solved
We are having the same problems. I just upgraded to SP2, but still have Rack names coming up that include serial numbers after their name. I can delete them, but as soon as I add a server back that is in one of the enclosures, the odd name comes back. I do have a couple of enclosures that are right, but working on getting it as correct as possible.

Re: SIM 4.2 SP1 & Rack/Enclosure duplicates not solved
The problem is that you have not assign UNIQUE names to the enclosures (we did the same stupid thing too btw), probably because you thought that "the system will know" once they are in different racks, but "the system" is stupid and doesn't know, so you have to assign UNIQUE names to the enclosures, as well as the racks, and the blades slots/bays.
It is just a mechanism by which the system try to differentiate them, it assigns them a unique name based on your name plus the serial number from the power enclosures.
For example: instead of BE01 put BR01BE01, do the same thing for the bay names, and last but not least don't forget to reboot all the blades in all the racks after changing that information on them, because until you reboot all of them you will not see any change in SIM (because it reads the bay, enclosure, and bay information for each server from the SMBIOS table, which is configured each time the blade server is rebooted), and also you will have to delete all the racks, enclosures and blades from SIM as the last step, before doing an auto discovery again.

Re: SIM 4.2 SP1 & Rack/Enclosure duplicates not solved
A little precision.
The duplicates Racks doesn't appear for
the last buyed Racks (BR03 & BR04) which
contains the new model of enclosure.
But, they contains only half of the enclosures.

Re: SIM 4.2 SP1 & Rack/Enclosure duplicates not solved
to HP. I will post the result.
The problem appear only on our firsts Enclosure Series.
I think that some hardware in the backplane should be replaced...

Re: SIM 4.2 SP1 & Rack/Enclosure duplicates not solved
Seems like an old thread, but I am still having this problem. I have updated to the latest firmware and version of HP SIM/BladeSystem Integrated Manager, and my enclosure names are all unique. Yet, one of my enclosure always registers itself with the name I provide plus a serial number appended to it.
Is there a fix to this?
Thanks
Nelson
