SIM 5.1 only reports ip address in the system name column

On some of the servers in my SIM 5.1 CMS only the ip address is being reported for the system name. I have SNMP settings setup on all servers so that they point back to my CMS and accept packets from it as well. Any idea why this is happening on only some of my servers?

Check your DNS to make sure that the HP SIM system can resolve names for the systems in question.

Just to back up what David has said, HPSIM uses DNS for name resolution. Both forward and reverse lookups need to work correctly.

I encountered the same issue here.

Yet, when I try to perform nslookup on those ip address without system name, it managed to resolve to its dns name. Any idea why SIM can't resolve the system name?

Please try to change this setting:

Options -> System Security -> System Link Configuration

This forces SIM to use your choice and fixed those problems for me. But only functions if the DNS entrys are correct.

Nope. Still appears only the IP address on the System Name column.

Funny thing is, when I mouse-over some of these IP addresses, the System Name appears on the mousetip. Is this a bug??
