SIM Console on VmWare

Hi - Considering running multiple SIM consoles on VmWare (currently have 6000+ nodes to monitor globally). Has anyone any comments around benefits and pitfalls of using this platform (SQL DB's will be hosted on shared SQL servers)and if SIM on VM's is supported by HP. Thanks

Re: SIM Console on VmWare

I believe SIM on VM is officially supported by HP now. I think if you look through the SIM 5.1 manual, it mentions it somewhere.

My testing on a VM showed SIM to be very slow but that was with the SQL 2005 server used for SIM running on the same box. Since you will be hosting SQL on a seperated box, it may run much better for you. I have also read comments from other people on this forum that SIM works fine for them on a VM.

Re: SIM Console on VmWare

While HP SIM on a virtual machine works fine, it is extremely I/O intensive, so using it in anything other than demo situations or small networks is simply not practical. Use the HP SIM sizer to determine the size of a platform needed to host HP SIM for your environment--if you can easily craft an equivalently performing VM, try it out.
