I have set up SIM using SNMP read only traps (this was requested by my security team). This was fine for receiving alerts, however I am not able to set any thresholds. I discovered this was because thresholds require WBEM or SNMP read write traps. After several weeks of trying to get my managed systems to recognize the WBEM service I have found that it is not recognized until I set up read write SNMP traps. Is this correct? Does WBEM require SNMP read Write traps? Or am I missing something?

Solution
WBEM has nothing to do with it. For ProLiant servers, WBEM (WMI) is not even used by the management agents.
A Read/Write community string must be established for intra-agent communication, but that string will never be used on the wire. More information is in the attached.

Re: SNMP-WBEM
The only way I could get WBEM to work on my Servers was to install the WMI mapper (Download from HP website)on each of my servers.
