Re: SNMP trap on SIM6.0 for ESX4.0 Update 1 with Management agent 8.4
It looks like your agent is not correct installed. You should see some snmptrap related lines at the end of the /etc/sudoers file.
# The following entries were added by hp-smh-templates at
# Sun Apr 25 19:17:57 CEST 2010
# WARNING! Any changes between here and the END marker are managed by hp-health
# and maybe automatically removed.
%hpsmh ALL=NOPASSWD:/etc/init.d/snmpd
%hpsmh ALL=NOPASSWD:/usr/bin/snmptrap
# ---------------------- END --------------------
Normaly you should open a new Question to get some answers

Re: SNMP trap on SIM6.0 for ESX4.0 Update 1 with Management agent 8.4
Hi
i've open a case to HP
First, they ask me to upgrade from 6.1 to 6.
1b ... and of corse same result
Then , the level 2 send me links to configure snmp on ESX 4 :
http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsp_4_snmp_config.pdf
and
http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1008065
So i modified snmpd.conf with the following line :
proxy -v 1 -c community udp:127.0.0.1:162 .1.3.6.1.4.1.6876
Then from WmWare CLI :
vicfg-snmp.pl --server EsxSrv --username xxx --password xxxx -t SimSrv@162/community
> Changing notification(trap) targets list to: SimSrv@162/community ...
> Complete.
vicfg-snmp.pl --server EsxSrv --xxx root --password xxx --enable
> Enabling agent...
> Complete.
When i send test trap, now i received in the event Tab the events in attachement

Re: SNMP trap on SIM6.0 for ESX4.0 Update 1 with Management agent 8.4
Hi
1. Upgrade to 8.6 version of HP Agent
2. Then Configure snmpd during installation (Use existing snmp conf : No)
3. Edited the /opt/hp/hp-snmp-agents/cma.conf for the NIC settings. Appended the file with trapIf vswif0.(Where vswif0 is the NIC name)
4.Commented out Defaults requiretty in /etc/sudoers.
5. Restarted the below services
a) snmpd
b) hp-snmp-agents
c) hpsmhd
6.Discover in HPSIM
7. Configure or repair Agent
8. Test send test trap works for me now !!
