Re: Set up SNMP for HP SIM
You need to understand the process, then you may be able to better implement it.
Agents on the servers being monitored pick up errors. These then use snmp to send a trap to HPSIM. This generates and event. So on these servers snmp needs to have the trap destination set as the HPSIM Server.
In order for HPSIM to identify servers you need to let snmp in, so the server also needs the HPSIM Server as an allowed host.
You also need community names that are the same.
Also HPSIM polls servers for up/down and will also generate an alert if the server is down.
You then configure an event handling task to react to events, for starters create one to pick up all major and critical events and e-mail you.
test by using the HP Management Agents Gui (via Control Panel) to send a trap to generate an event.
Also, try searching this forum, this has been answered before.
