Sign In Credentials Detail

Guys, might seem like a basic question but what exactly are 'Sign-In' credentials in SIM used for?

Re: Sign In Credentials Detail

Hello Shocko,

Sign-in credentials are used for repairs or deployment of tools and drivers etc... These do not need to be set pure from a monitoring perspective. If you run a repair you can use the stored sign-in or you can type your credentials when running the repair option. If you configure sign-in use a serviceaccount and not your own as your account will get locked out when you change your password and you run a task that requires the credentials.

Also be aware that when you use the sign-in credentials you also create a security risk as someone that uses SIM can run jobs using these credentials. And to be of use these credentials would be with admin rights.

Kind regards,

Andrew

Re: Sign In Credentials Detail

Thanks Andrew. Thats exactly what I was after. I only use SIM for monitoring using SNMP and some WBEM for ESXi. I don't really need sign in based on your comment so thats one less thing to worry about :0
