System Insight Manager (SIM) reporting hardware alert multiple times?

Denny had a customer question regarding hardware alerts showing up in SIM:

My customer asks this SIM question:

 

A hardware error only seems to show up in SIM and the IML log once.  We are hypothesizing that its using some sort of dedup process to suppress multiple alerts for the same issue.  We are wondering how we can trigger the systems to report an issue a second time?

HPSIM doesn’t suppress any of the event that is received from the Agent.

If agent is reporting the error multiple times it will show up in SIM too.

Keep in mind that’s by design.  If systems shouted for help repetitively until an issue was corrected, the maintenance of events would be a nightmare.  If HP SIM misses an alert for some reason (less likely on WBEM than SNMP, as SNMP traps are not guaranteed delivery), on the next status scan, HP SIM will collect the fact that a system has an issue and change the HW status column accordingly.
