System health status in SIM 5.0 does not change

SIM reported a minor error for a system. "ASR Detected by System ROM". I cleared the error on the system by using "cpqimlview" and deleting it out of the log. The health status for the system does not change in SIM. I even deleted the error from the SIM event log. How do you clear or how are errors cleared in SIM?

Have you goen through the SMH of the server in question to see what it is reporting? https://:2381

Perhaps something else is reporting an issue?

Re: System health status in SIM 5.0 does not change

SMH is not loaded on the server. I've used cpqimlview to see if there are any other errors. I have also checked /var/log/messages and I see no errors there. I've even shutdown and restarted the snmp services, but no luck.

Re: System health status in SIM 5.0 does not change

What kind of server is it and what version of linux are you running? What version of the agents are you running on this server?

Do an SNMPGET on enterprises.232.11.2.10.1.0
The 2nd octet reflects the overall status of the server.
02 - Good
03 - Degraded
04 - Critical
example - 0103000 where the second octet is 03
Does this match with what SIM is reporting?

Re: System health status in SIM 5.0 does not change

The server is a HP Proliant DL580 running RHel 3.0 with kernel 2.4.21-27.ELhugemem. The packages for snmp monitoring are:

ucd-snmp-4.2.5-79
hpasm-7.4.0-56.rhel3
hp_monitoring_agents-7.4.0-A0

It appears that the server is not configured to answer any snmp requests, but sends any snmp traps to the SIM. (No snmp ports are open on the server.) Also, the snmp utilities aren't loaded, so I can't do an snmpget on the localhost. Is there anyway without the utilities to send a clear trap to the SIM?

Re: System health status in SIM 5.0 does not change

I modified snmp.conf on the server that is having the problem. I ran snmpget and got the following response:

SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.232.11.2.10.1.0 = Hex-STRING: 01 03 08 00 01 02 01 11 01 01 01 18 01 02 01 1F
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 03 01 15 00 00 00 00
00 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 02 01 04 01 02 01 16
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 02 01 08 00 00 00 00
01 02 01 17 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00

The mib is reported a minor problem so SIM is reporting the correct health status. The question I now have is how do you reset the mib so that it doesn't report this error. The system appears to be working fine?

Re: System health status in SIM 5.0 does not change

Something is reporting a fault somewhere along the line. Check to see if CPQCI is loaded and if so:
1)run service hpasm stop

2)edit /opt/compaq/cma.conf and add CPQCI to the exclusions list

3)run service hpasm start

see if that helps. There was some issues in the past with servers that did not have ILOs getting the ILO agent installed (CPQCI) and causing this issue. Let me know if it helps.

If this does not help then we need to get the SMH loaded and see what it reports.

Re: System health status in SIM 5.0 does not change

Hi David,
I have also had this problem. Sometimes the status will clear, but most of the time it will not. In every case, there is nothing wrong with the server after the ASR. I reset the ASR and clear the error, and the status still will not update. About the only way I have been able to clear the status is to reboot the box.
One thing I haven't tried is to restart all of the HP sims services and rediscover.
