Systems are unreachable at a specific time

Hi Forum,

we have the problem, that the HP SIM (Version C.05.01.00.00) report every day at the same time 16:14 that a number of systems are not reachable.

If we check the systems, we could not find any problems with the systems.
After 2-4 minutes everything is fine again for the HP SIM.

Is there any option in HP SIM which could cause this behavior?
We do not have these problems, but it is confusing because we have to check in case of any problems.

You could check if there are any HPSIM tasks that run at this time.
But normally there's nothing in HPSIM that would cause this behaviour.
You would need to try and check what else is going on at this time that might cause network delays.

Hi Rob,

thats what we have already done. But there is nothing we could see in the systems which could be an answer why this happens.

We have not found any tasks on the server.

So we don't know there to look at futher.

That could happen if the snmp deamons of the monitored systems are restartet, i.e. when an logrotate accours. If your "System Automatic Discovery" process is invoked at that time it could be identified as attack by some firewall or intrusion detection systems, cutting loose the connections.
Another cause could be some failing (rebooting?) network device between the servers and the management station.

Try looking in Sims and not on the servers, Tasks and Logs, View all scheduled tasks.
On our Sims server, the Daily System Identification runs at the default of 16:00 every day. Maybe this is giving you the alerts.

Hi Marco,

we have no automatic discovery running. The task is disabled.

I have a look at the Firewalls, but I do not think this is the reason. The systems reported down are not beeing protected by a firewall from the SIM.

The Sim has no sschedduled Tasks activatred.
And we do not have a the Daily System Identification running installed.

Hi!

I would try to poll the servers with another snmp-tool (for instance loriot on windows) and see if the servers respond as aspected.

Check that the device unreachable symptom is not caused by a network issue. You may have an application or system creating extensive network traffic at 16:14 hurting the HPSIM polling tasks. HPSIM reports the issue but is not causing it...

Hi Vander,

we checked it up that we could say that there is noch network problem.
We broke up the teaming of the interfaces and teh same problem occurs.

When we disconnect one NIC we just see that there is no traffic on this line.
If we disconnect the other NIC we loose connection to the SIM at the specific time 16:10.

Afterwards we see teh same Problem happens again.

Any help or ideas wanted .
