Unable to license servers for performance management pack

Hi, using insight manager 5 and trying to license a couple of new proliant servers running windows 2003 advanced server.
When I try to licenses these I get the following error :

No, is not LINUX or WINNT Microsoft version equal to 4.0 or WINNT Microsoft version equal to 5.0 or WINNT Microsoft version equal to 5.2 : wrong Operating System Name.

The target OS type shown in the PMP license administration page for these servers is showing as :

Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Server

Re: Unable to license servers for performance management pack

The OS type "Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Server" shows that the server has been discovered using WBEM protocol & thus not detected by PMP (due to extra 'R'), which is SNMP protocol based. Please disable WBEM using Options -> Protocol Settings -> Global Protocol Settings, discover servers & then again enable WBEM.

Thanks.

Re: Unable to license servers for performance management pack

Hi, thanks that fixed the os name issue, however I am still unable to license them it is now telling me that it is an "unsupported configuration" ?

They are proliant DL380 G4, insight is showing this also and the os is now showing as "Microsoft Windows 2003 Server, Enterprise Edition Service Pack 1"

According to the matrix this is a supported configuration!

Re: Unable to license servers for performance management pack

If those servers are supported by PMP, have serial numbers & SNMP protocol enable on them, you can try to rediscover them & then do a H/W & S/W status polling before trying to license / configure them.

Thanks.

Re: Unable to license servers for performance management pack

Hi Nigel,

I think PMP supports "Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2, Enterprise Edition Service Pack 1", whereas your system has "Microsoft Windows 2003 Server, Enterprise Edition Service Pack 1" (without R2). So can you pleasy verify this, again ?

Thanks.

I don't think so,you can reference support matrix.
Win2003 server is in support matrix.
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 is not support PMP.

Re: Unable to license servers for performance management pack

By mistake I've checked against the support matrix of the latest PMP (4.1.1).

Usually we get "unsupported configuration" error, when there is some problem in discovery phase, or H/W & S/W status polling or target OS is not supported by PMP.

Thanks.

Re: Unable to license servers for performance management pack

So the problem is no solution?Maybe we can ask for HP support.

Re: Unable to license servers for performance management pack

I was able to resolve this by going in and disabling WBEM in the global settings as per an earlier note.

One additional item to look at is to make sure your SNMP communities are setup properly and that on the server the SNMP service is checked to accept packets from all hosts (localhost was default on mine).

After doing this, I was able to get PMP to recognize the server.

I also upgraded to PMP 4.1.1 earlier in the day.
