Upgrade HP SIM 5 SP4 > SP5 gives account lockout.

Hi

I have an environment with Windows 2003 SP1 AD-servers. I have also an account lockout policy that lokes the account if 50 failed logons is done in 30 minutes.
(recommended by MS Security guide april 2006)
I run HP SIM on a member server.
I installed HP SIM 5 SP4 in may this year, no problem with account lockout.

This morning I uppgraded to HP SIM SP5 and my HP SIM-account locks (same account during all of the installation).

I get the same problems in an test-environment.

That has HP done in HP SIM 5 SP5 taht locks the SIM-account.

(I was mailbombed (1700 mails in 15 minutes) from HPSIM to my mailbox with the text.
""Event Name: Login Failed Authentication""

Re: Upgrade HP SIM 5 SP4 > SP5 gives account lockout.

I have looked at the link and the error message i the same BUT I have not changed any password.

Here come som more info.

With HP SIM 5 SP4 I have no problem with locked account.

I did the upgrade from SP4 to SP5 (only 2 modules was upgraded â Insight â ¦ and Performance..â ) the otherone was gray.

After the upgrade I rebooted the server.

After a few minutes SIM startes to mailbomb me with mail about â Failed loginsâ .

Today I to stop the service â HP Performance Management Packâ and no more lockouts, no more mail with â Failed loginsâ .

If I start the service â HP Performance Management Packâ the account locks, and I get mails with â Failed loginsâ .

So it must be something with â HP Performance Management Packâ in SP5 of HP SIM 5.

I have edit the service â HP Performance Management Packâ with the same account and password again and started the service.

The account still locks.

Can I use mxpassword to reset the account/password deeper in HP SIM??

What can i do more?

Re: Upgrade HP SIM 5 SP4 > SP5 gives account lockout.

Hi Mikael,

Did you do a custom upgradation?
If So,

Note: During the installation of the PMP, the warning is displayed:
"As part of HP Performance Management Pack installation the HP Systems Insight Manager service must be stopped and restarted.
Click OK to stop the service and continue with the PMP installation, or click Cancel to abort the installation."

1. Click Next. The Database configuration screen appears.
2. Enter your account password.
3. Click Next. Installation begins.
4. Click Finish to exit PMP setup.

In case you have not done the above.

Re: Upgrade HP SIM 5 SP4 > SP5 gives account lockout.

Not too sure if PMP 4.2 would make a difference.
However worth trying since its got a couple of bug fixes.

Re: Upgrade HP SIM 5 SP4 > SP5 gives account lockout.

Hi Mikael,

You have said that HP SIM 5 SP4 works fine without any lockout issues in your first posting. Right?
("I installed HP SIM 5 SP4 in may this year, no problem with account lockout.")

Do you have the same lockout issues with PMP 4.1, 4.1.1 and 4.2 with HP SIM 5 SP4 also?
("If i install PMP 4.0 from HP SIM SP4, my lockout problems disapper.")

Correct me if I am wrong.

Re: Upgrade HP SIM 5 SP4 > SP5 gives account lockout.

Hi rmn

Then I have install HP SIM 5.0 SP4 with a lockout policy i haveno problems with locked account.

After that I upgraded to HP SIM 5.0 SP5 and my lockout started.
If I stop the service PMP my lockouts stops.
After installation of PMP 4.1.1 and 4.2 acoount still locks if the PMP service is running.

I have NOT run HP SIM 5.0 SP4 with PMP 4.1.1 and 4.2

I'm now running HP SIM 5.0 SP5 with PMP (4.0) from HP SIM 5.0 SP4 and it works fine without account locks.

Re: Upgrade HP SIM 5 SP4 > SP5 gives account lockout.

Hi Mikael,

Just a few questions here:

1. Are you able to login to the HP System Management Homepage with local administrative credentials?

2. Any changes done with the directory permissions for the c:\compaq directory?

3. Has the c:\compaq directory and all sub-directories granted full control to the local administrator?
If not, modify security for the c:\compaq directory and grant full access.

Then restart the HP SIM, HP System Management Homepage, and HP ProLiant Essentials PMP.
