Upgrade from 5.0 SP5 to 5.3 SP1

Upgrade from 5.0 SP5 to 5.3 SP1

I need to upgrade from SIM 5.0 with Update 5 to the latest release, 5.3 with Update 1.

Reading the forums I notice that SQL Server 2000 is not shown as a supported database for 5.3.

If this is indeed the case, can I upgrade directly, and what's the best way to achieve this? I was thinking that I could stop SIM, upgrade the database, upgrade SIM and then start SIM.

Alternatively do I have to upgrade to 5.2, where both SQL Server 2000 and 2005 are supported, on the way.
