VCRM install fails - caught exception vcredistributable

On systems at this customer the SIM V5.2 SP2 or V5.3 install part for VCRM fails where i used the same at other customers without a problem.

It fails 'Caught exception in installation of "vcredistributable" file!'.

They say the Windows are hardened?
But the other components WMI, OpenSSH, SIM do succeed normally.

Any suggestions?

Im also experiencing this issue on 4 SIM installs, this is also with in a hardended environment being AD.

My MSI.DLL is ver 3.1.4000.3959

Im trying to install both the 2.1.10.800 or 2.1.10.801 - The reason for me trying to re-install this agent is also due to the failed install during the SIM 5.2.2 install, I have managed to install this by extracting the VCA exe and running CPQSETUP.exe, vcagent.msi & vcredit_x86.exe but the VCA tends to hang when the system has been up for a while (being a day or 2), when I go to access the HPSM Homepage this hangs, errors and removed the VC Agent box from the homepage.

Any help or assistance would be great as this is the last piece of a long install / config process.

Yes. SIM, Openssh, wmi, VCRM are on another.

I tested 2.1.10.800 (part of SIM V5.2 SP2 kit) and version of sim v5.3 kit. Currently the running SIM is V5.2 sp2.

Reminder: All other components DID install. OpenSSH, WMI, SMH, SIM! It is just vcrm. And the same kit installed at another customer.

So it seems a vcrm/W2K3 issue. What is vcrm install doing/using differently than the other kits?

I had same issue. I downloaded the latest version of VCRM and it seemed to install ok.

Yes. But this is the stand alone exe, not bundled with Sim 5.2 and/or 5.3. Suggest you give it a go.

Has anyone found a solution for this? I am also getting the same error on a hardend W2K3 HP Proliant box. New HP SIM 5.3 is working fine. I've downloaded the HP VCRM component only, and that still did not work.

Check if "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable" is already installed or any other version of this is installed in that server, check system & application event log for any messages related to VC redistributable installation errors.

Best thing to do will be to contact HP support team & log an issue before implementing this workaround.

Workaround:-
1) Double click VCRM component (VCRM.exe or cp00xxxx.exe)
2) Click "Extract..." and extract its contents to a new folder
3) Execute "vcredist_x86.exe" & finish the installation.
4) Execute "cpqsrhmo.msi" by double clicking.

Note:- VCRM Help files many not get installed properly this way, So try to reinstall VCRM using VCRM.exe or cp00xxxx.exe to deploy help files properly.

Your steps 1-4 worked for me but when i tried reinstalling VCRM using VCRM.exe or cp00xxxx.exe i received the same error so i added the last step to make sure the help files were deploed.

1) Double click VCRM component (VCRM.exe or cp00xxxx.exe)
2) Click "Extract..." and extract its contents to a new folder
3) Execute "vcredist_x86.exe" & finish the installation.
4) Execute "cpqsrhmo.msi" by double clicking.
5) Executed "cpqsetup.exe"

So do you know what the root cause of this error is?
