VSphere 5 and HPSIM integration

We are running VCenter 5.0 on a VMWARE server.

We are running HP SIM 6.3

I am trying to register the VCenter server on HPSIM, and having problems.  As the server is running on a VM, there is no HP software installed, but SNMP has been configured with correct community string.

I am able to discover the VCenter server, but with major errors:

The system cannot be identified properly for HP SIM to manage;
unable to get one or more of the following: model, serial number or
unique identifier (UUID). For management processors, verify the
system is running the latest firmware. For Linux based operating
systems, you must have dmidecode installed, enable the
PermitRootLogin and PasswordAuthentication in sshd, and use root
sign-in credential. For HP-UX, verify the sign-in credential. For
Windows, check if WMIMapper is configured correctly on the CMS and
          verify the sign-in credential

but when I try to register the server as the Virtual Server host, I get the following error:

2011/10/18 15:46:50 ERROR Could not find VM Host ldn1vvc1.ebrd.com com.hp.mx.vmm.vmtools.grid.configure.jobs.ConfigurationJob logError ConfigurationJob.java 976

Is it possible to register a Vcenter server running as a VM?

Re: VSphere 5 and HPSIM integration

Hi,

I do not directly recognize the error but I can tell you that this should work. I have a similar setup with ESXi5 hosts on Proliant blades and a VC server running virtually on it.

The VC VM is recognized via SNMP and WBEM (management protocols on System page in SIM), the ESX servers via WBEM and SSH...

Do not forget the add all the appropriate credentials in the Global Credentials list...

Kr,

Bart

Re: VSphere 5 and HPSIM integration

Hi,
From my understanding, SNMP is deprecated for ESXi included vSphere 5. WBEM is the only option

Ensure you've setup according to this guide :)
