Virtual connect Monitoring and HP SIM

I am looking for some insight into how to get HP SIM to correctly monitor outages that are related to HP Virtual Connect.  As an example we had a failure the other day on the Nexus switch where our VC Interconnect Modules are plugged in, even though we have redundancy both links failed due to an issue with a card and connection on one of the fiber uplinks.  I have SNMP set up to monitorthe virtual connect domain and all the devices are dicovered and operational in SIM, however it appears that no events were registered at all.  We do not have HP VC Enterprise Manager and don't plan on purchasing it.  Any ideas?
