snmp traps cannot be decoded
Hi,
I've installed HP Systems Insight Manager on one of our servers.
If I send a test trap from another server, some messages cannot be decoded.
Here is a message which would not decode:
Event Name: (SNMP) Generic trap (11003)
URL: https://servername.domain.local:2381/
Event originator: servername
Event Severity: Major
Event received: 04-Feb-2011, 09:11:31
Event description: Generic trap.
Text: 4D 61 6E 61 67 65 6D 65 6E 74 20 41 67 65 6E 74 73 20 54 65 73 74 20 54 72 61 70 20 73 65 6E 74 20 2D 20 32 30 31 31 94 4E 32 8C 8E 34 93 FA 20 39 3A 31 31 3A 33 32
The text messages should be "Management Agents Test Trap sent - date/time"...
Any ideas?

Re: snmp traps cannot be decoded
If you can see the generic trap (11003) The trap it self was able to decode most of the SNMP Trap info. I guess you have an Insight agent which inserts Japanese or other no English text insight a SNMP Trap variable.
I would check the server languages.
And allow unregistered Events inside the HP SIM event filter to see if you have other type of messages from the server you mentioned.
Some linux based system can send messages which are not known inside the HP SIM environment. Sometimes the correct MIB with the additional trap definition can help.

Re: snmp traps cannot be decoded
Yes. The test trap includes the Date and Time with Japanese variables.
I found some in the release notes.
When Insight management agent for Windows prior to v8.30 is applied to the server of HP Systems Insight Manager version 6.1, a part of test trap information from the server to HP Systems Insight Manager might not be normally displayed.
Please upgrade Insight management agent for Windows on the management server to v8.40 to correct this problem.
This could be locale related issues.
I'll check the installed version.
