steps to add Linux os installed servers in HP SIM

Dear all,

We are planning to add Non windows servers in monitoring (HP SIM).

I installed HP agents in Redhat Linux 5 OS running in HP DL 180 G6 server

HP SMH, HP Health, HP SNMP agent and HP SMH template.

they installed successfully.

Kindly guide me the steps to configure SNMP in server and necessary steps.

Thanks in Advance.

Regards,

R. Leodharaneraja

Re: steps to add Linux os installed servers in HP SIM

Hello,

For specific Redhat linux like configs you could use this link : https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Deployment_Guide/sect-System_Monitoring_Tools-Net-SNMP-Configuring.html

You need a read community  like public but this is a very commonly used string. The public string is used for readonly access so that should not be a real problem depending on security, but then again snmp can be read from the network with very little problems. The ip or SIM server name sbould also be added then the trap settings also need to be set, once again public can be used and the ip or servername as a destination.

If the SNMP config file is saved restart the SNMP deamon and run an identify for the linux server you just modified, if you used some other community than public the new community should be added to the SNMP config settings in SIM.

Kind regards,

Andrew
